The colour palette and shapes look inspired by Mary Blair and Maurice Noble. There are San Franjose city, Live Corp and the evolved Swallow Falls. Their designs are almost as wacky as those from The Croods except they are made of food here.Įnvironment art are beautiful too. There are lots of hilariously cute foodimals with funny names, such as Cheespider, Tacodile, Watermelophant, Shrimpanzees and more. Those foodimal designs are great, whimsical and creative. The creature designs are for the foodimals, the complex food-based organisms (or the mutant food-inspired creatures as I would call them) created by the Food Replicator. The extra characters are Chester V, Barb, Thinkquanauts, Sentinels of Safety and the other Live Corp employees. The book covers the characters and creature designs, and the production designs for the environment and props.Īs most of the characters are featured in the earlier art book, the emphasis here is the commentary on how they have changed since we last saw them. On the back of that cover is a 3-page colour script, essentially the storyboard from start to the ending. The front cover is actually a gatefold that when opened up shows a beautiful landscape painting of the Swallow Falls with the wonderful food creatures. This is a very well done companion art book to the movie Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2. This art book for Cloudy's sequel is just as good as the first art book.

While non-binary material is all the rage today, as are many other formerly taboo sexual topics, I don't think BDSM has made the leap to mainstream yet. I've included Alice in Leatherland only because A) I really like the cover art, and B) the "leather" reference makes me wonder if this is a BDSM kind of rom-com. (Will it follow the plot of the book, or an original plot? Unknown.) I found a preview, which only covered the early break-up, so that didn't help me guess where this was going. I can't tell if the Alice in Wonderland reference carries beyond the title, and the general theme of being a child-like explorer of a strange place. It's written and drawn by a real-life couple with a short but respectable oeuvre. It's called an LGBTQIA+ rom-com, as the lead character is a Black, lesbian writer of children's story books (which, obviously, we can all relate to) who leaves her rural setting when her girlfriend cheats on her, for the wild-n-wooly sexual landscape of San Francisco. Topic: This Week in Comics: April 20-26, 2021 doesn't send me DRCs. Held her in my arms as the poison claimed her, as she spilled her blood beneath the dual altar and called to the Lord Under. All remnants of the destruction I caused when I became a monster. Deep wounds torn across the ground that look like they were made by claws. Earth cut up, a fallen tree skeletal in the moonlight. Dark as ink, dark as the Corruption that stained the shore, dark as the poison that filled my veins. Illuminating the blackened streaks that still mar the wooden icon frame, turning the Lady to a shadowed shroud. In the altar beneath the jacaranda tree, at the center of the lawn, a single candle has been lit. The trees are hung with leaves that are dying or dead. Cold glass, moonlight on the locked garden below. Pause at the landing and look down through the arched window. And though I was spared, all still feels ruined. Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. So, a conquered my fears and took a step onto the mysterious plateau that is classic literature. I feel I should read it, but I always worry it’s going to be full of old-fashioned words and sentences I won’t understand and that’d make it a really excruciating read. I chose this book, firstly because it was free (yay freestuff!) and secondly because I’m always a little scared of this sort of stuff. The Lost World wasn’t as successful as Sherlock Holmes, but it did inspire a TV series The Lost World in 1999. Arthur Conan Doyle, of course, is well known for Sherlock Holmes. For this review, I reached back in the past and plucked out this piece of classic literature: The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. To what extent would you attribute this to your academic training? Were there things you learnt on the job, through trial and error, just from being with your interviewees? The award committee has praised your book for its “potential to influence museum anthropology in its methodology, grace of narration, and participant-centred analysis”. When I began working on it, I too came from another discipline – visual art – and was able to carve a place for it within oral history. As far as being welcomed by another discipline is concerned, perhaps this speaks to the malleability of Remnants as a project. It is an enormous honour to be recognized for the work, and particularly for it to find resonance in landscapes across the world from where it was written. How do you feel about the award? As someone who describes herself as an oral historian, what is it like to be welcomed by another discipline? Author Aanchal Malhotra (Courtesy HarperCollins) |
